CSUN Stuck With Open Date in Football

Cal State Northridge football Coach Bob Burt said Thursday that he does not have a school in mind to fill the vacancy in the Matadors’ 1993 schedule created when Santa Clara decided to drop football. Northridge was scheduled to play at Santa Clara on Oct. 2.
The loss of Santa Clara leaves CSUN with a nine-game schedule in its first season at the Division I-AA ranks.
CSUN Athletic Director Bob Hiegert has had to struggle to fill the Matadors’ schedule, in part because the school does not have a conference affiliation. Hiegert was out of town Thursday and unavailable for comment.
Without Santa Clara, CSUN’s schedule is as follows: Sept. 4 at San Diego State; Sept. 11 bye; Sept. 18 at Northern Arizona; Sept. 25 Sonoma State; Oct. 9 at UNLV; Oct. 16 bye; Oct. 23 at UC Davis; Oct. 30 Cal State Chico; Nov. 6 Cal State Sacramento; Nov. 13 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Nov. 20 Southern Utah.
