SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

An argument between a Camarillo woman and her elderly father erupted in violence Wednesday when the woman allegedly struck her father with a shovel, rake and hammer before tossing boiling water on him, authorities said.

Julie Madrid, 42, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after the hourlong incident, in which she allegedly slashed at both her parents with a knife and prevented them from leaving, Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Barnes said in a prepared release.

Raul Madrid, 77, was treated for cuts, burns and abrasions at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo and later released in stable condition, a nursing supervisor said.

The assault began when Julie Madrid, who lives in her parents’ home in the 2000 block of Barry Street, began to argue with her father about 2:30 p.m., Barnes said. The argument escalated into violence, with the daughter allegedly using the tools to batter the elderly Madrid, who depends on a walker to get around, Barnes said.

After allegedly slashing at him with a knife, Julie Madrid is accused of throwing boiling water on her father, Barnes said.

When her mother, Irene Madrid, tried to leave the house, Julie Madrid allegedly held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her, Barnes said. After an hour, the mother escaped, fleeing to a neighbor’s home, where she called police for help, he said.

Irene Madrid, described as in her late 60s, did not need to be hospitalized, Barnes said.

Julie Madrid was arrested and taken to Ventura County Jail, where she is being held on $100,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said. She is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.
