Two men stopped at an intersection were robbed at gunpoint by three teen-agers early Wednesday.

One suspect, a 16-year-old from Westminster, has been arrested, but the two other males remain at large, police said.

Three teen-agers who had been hiding in bushes ran to the car when it stopped at Hoover and 21st streets at 1:25 a.m., Police Sgt. Mike Mittelstaedt said.

“They ran straight for the car. The one with a handgun opened up the unlocked driver’s door, put the gun up against the driver’s head and demanded his wallet.”

The driver, Hai Le, 29, of Huntington Beach, handed over his wallet but it was empty.

A second teen-ager approached the other side of the car and demanded that the passenger, Dung Luong, 29, of Huntington Beach, surrender his wallet. Luong didn’t have a wallet but handed over $10 from his pants pocket.

The teen-ager then slugged Luong in the face and the three ran, Mittelstaedt said.

The two men drove south on Hoover Street and flagged down a police officer. Within minutes, police found a group of eight teen-agers standing four blocks from the intersection where the robbery occurred.

“The victims were brought over to the group and both men identified one of the teen-agers as the suspect with the gun,” Mittelstaedt said.

Officers said that as they approached the group, the teen-ager threw the gun over a wall.

“When the gun landed on the ground, apparently it fired, because the officers heard a gunshot and when they checked the other side of the wall, the gun was there,” Mittelstaedt said.
