Ice Cube is planning to hold his first Los Angeles concert in more than two years at the new downtown Glam Slam club in early March. Security concerns have prevented the rapper from performing in his hometown, but the Prince-owned Glam Slam features very tight security. . . .

While the Nirvana camp has tried to squelch an unauthorized book about the group that’s being worked on, the group cooperated with Rolling Stone magazine contributing editor Michael Azerrad, who is writing a book on the band for Doubleday. Azerrad, who wrote the Rolling Stone cover story on Nirvana last year, says the book, titled “Come as You Are,” is scheduled for September publication--around the time the group’s next album is planned to be released. . . .

Bay Area hard-art-rock trio Primus has a new album, “Pork Soda,” due April 21. Among the song titles: “My Name Is Mud,” Hamburger Train,” “Hail Santa” and “Mr. Krinkle.” . . .

Even Depeche Mode has gone in for the grunge look, as the new photo of singer David Gahan attests (see above). The look is featured in the new Anton Corbijn-directed video for the song “I Feel You,” set to premiere tonight on MTV’s “120 Minutes.” . . . Atlantic Records has put on hold plans for a second Led Zeppelin box set, which will feature tracks not included on the 1990 “Led Zeppelin” set. No reason has been given for the delay. . . .

There’s finally a firm date for the LL Cool J album, “Soul Survivor,” which has been on hold for a while. Look for it March 30. . . . Wynonna Judd is going to be reunited with her mother, Naomi, on her next solo album, due May 11. Momma Judd is singing backup on two cuts, one a Mary-Chapin Carpenter song, “Girls With Guitars,” which will feature another famous guest--Lyle Lovett. . . .

Warren Zevon has a solo live album, “Learning to Flinch,” due in April. . . . Salt-n-Pepa, the most commercially successful of the female rappers, is at work on an album that’s tentatively scheduled for April. . . .

Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins guests with the Golden Palominos on the group’s new album, due in April. Restless Records has also just released two CDs compiling material from the Palominos’ earlier albums, featuring appearances by Michael Stipe, Syd Straw, Jack Bruce and Richard Thompson.
