A 22-year-old motorist fell victim to gang cross-fire Tuesday when he was shot in the shoulder as he drove down a North Hollywood street, Los Angeles police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was traveling south on Bellingham Avenue near the Valley Plaza shopping center when a bullet pierced the back window of his car before lodging in his shoulder, said Sgt. Robert Balderrama. The victim was listed in good condition at a Valley hospital, said a city fire spokesman.

Balderrama said the bullet was apparently fired during a shootout between two gangs about 6:50 p.m. near Bellingham and Victory Boulevard. “One of the groups fired some rounds that missed the other individuals and struck a passing motorist,” Balderrama said.
