In an incident police say was gang-related, a Los Angeles man fired gunshots into an apartment building in Hollywood and then led police on a high-speed car chase that ended about a half-hour later in Arleta, police said Wednesday.

The incident began Tuesday night when officers from an anti-gang unit watched a man get out of a car and fire five or six shots at an apartment building at Hoover and Marathon streets, police spokeswoman Sharyn Michelson said.

The ensuing police pursuit reached speeds of 70 m.p.h. on the Hollywood and Golden State freeways. Police said people in the car pointed weapons at officers.

The car exited the freeway at Osborne Street and three people surrendered without incident about 30 minutes after the chase began, Michelson said. Police found a pellet gun inside the car, she said.

Arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer were Jesus Almaraz, 18, of Los Angeles; Richard Galindo, 21, of Los Angeles, and a 17-year-old juvenile, also from Los Angeles.
