LOS ANGELES : Holden Countersues 3 Women Accusers
- Share via
City Councilman and mayoral hopeful Nate Holden filed a countersuit Thursday for slander and libel against the first of three former women employees who have accused him of sexual harassment.
Holden’s lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court claims that onetime aide Carla Cavalier defamed him by claiming that he had made sexual advances toward her. Holden’s attorney said Cavalier was treated fairly--receiving promotions and raises totaling $7,000--in her four years of employment.

Holden suit--A headline in Friday’s Metropolitan Digest incorrectly stated that City Councilman Nate Holden had filed a suit against three women accusers. Holden countersued only the first of three former employees who have accused him of sexual harassment.
The 64-year-old councilman also accused Cavalier’s lawyer, Melanie Lomax, of trumping up allegations against him as political retaliation. Holden was not present last year for a vote in which the City Council failed to confirm the appointment of Lomax to the Water and Power Commission.
Lomax said Holden’s countersuit is an attempt at intimidation, but that Cavalier, 32, will not be dissuaded from pursuing her sexual harassment lawsuit.
