Man Accidentally Backs Car Over Son, Killing Him
A 2-year-old boy died Thursday morning shortly after his father accidentally backed a car over him in the driveway of their home.
Neighbors in the 7800 block of Speer Avenue called police after they saw Gary Zavala, 27, screaming as he held his injured son, Ricardo, in his arms, Police Sgt. Val Birkett said.
Officers arrived a few minutes after the 10:33 a.m. accident and rushed the child and his father to Humana Hospital-Huntington Beach in a police car.
Doctors treated the child for massive head and internal injuries but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m., Birkett said.
Zavala was not cited by police, and an investigation into the accident is continuing, Birkett said.
