DIVISION V-AA, V-A ROUNDUP : Heritage Christian Hits 3-Pointers in 99-82 Victory

Heritage Christian was forced to try something new in its Division V-A game against West Valley Christian, but it came up with a very familiar result.

West Hills West Valley Christian (12-10) forced the Patriots out of its fast-break offense, but Heritage Christian countered by shooting seven three-pointers, including four in the final quarter, to defeat West Valley, 99-82, at Village Bible Church.

But trying something new is just what Heritage Christian Coach John Caldie has been asking his team to do all year.

“We’ve always had a tradition of losing here and this year we asked the kids to step up, forget about the past and win,” Caldie said.

So far, the Patriots have listened to their coach. After failing to win a game in the Academy League last season, Heritage Christian went 14-0 in the Express League and, with Friday’s victory, improved to 19-1 and increased its victory streak to 12.

The Patriots’ victory streak almost didn’t make it to 12. After struggling through the first three quarters against the Seekers’ constant pressure, Heritage Christian gave up pounding the ball inside and began to shoot the three-pointers.

Acheson led all scorers with 26 and Drabek finished with 22.
