PIERCE COLLEGE : Teacher Arraigned on Gun Charge

Share

A Pierce College philosophy instructor was arraigned last week in Van Nuys Municipal Court on felony possession of a firearm on a college campus, officials said.

A technician who was installing a telephone discovered parts of a dismantled .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle behind some boxes and filing cabinets in the office of Donald Anderson, a Pierce instructor since 1962, said Police Capt. Ken Renolds.

Ammunition and a scope for the rifle also were found, police said.

Anderson, who has been on a sabbatical leave since December, was arrested last month when he returned to the campus to retrieve his minivan and other personal belongings, Renolds said.

Police said other Pierce instructors reported seeing Anderson with a rifle on campus in December.

Anderson, who was unavailable for comment, has been forbidden to enter the campus without a police escort, Renolds said.
