PREP PREVIEW 1993: GOLF : Huntington Beach
Coach: Bill Seckington (16th year).
1992: 15-3, 9-1 in Sunset League; shared league title with Marina; finished second in Southern Section, 11th in CIF-SCGA championship.
Key returners: Jeff Farley, So., averaged 77.1; Michael Hobson, Sr., averaged 79.0; Greg Uberuaga, Jr., team’s most improved player as a sophomore.
Key newcomers: Perry Dickey, Fr.; Gabe Shiwota, Jr.; Scott Blaska, Jr.; Ross Mangum, Jr.; Bryan Wheeler, Jr.
Outlook: Although the Oilers will be without top players Scott Gibson and Trent Fenzl, who graduated after last season, Seckington is confident they will challenge for their third league title in four seasons. Seckington says Farley was the best freshman player in school history and is more advanced than Gibson (now at Tulsa) was as a sophomore. Four juniors up from the junior varsity that won eight of nine matches should make a formidable lineup. “This year we may not have as many 72s or 73s, but I think down to maybe my ninth player they can all break 80,” Seckington said. “I think we’ll have more depth this year.”
