For the Birds and Humans

Share

Thank you for your excellent coverage of birds and bird watching in the Sepulveda Basin and other areas of the San Fernando Valley in “Urban Oasis--Counting on a Wildlife Haven” of Jan. 22 and “Wild Goose Chase” of Feb. 7.

The San Fernando Valley Audubon Society is working to preserve our very urban Valley’s remaining wildlife oases at the Sepulveda Basin, Chatsworth Reservoir, Encino Reservoir, Hansen Dam, Pierce College and the Van Norman Bird Refuge. Wildlife and people alike need respite from urbanization and development.

With the cooperation of other groups and agencies, we hope to restore vegetation in the wildlife areas of Sepulveda Basin, expand those areas, manage the basin’s agricultural areas consistently with wildlife protection, and expand educational programs there. The basin is a wonderful place for people to enjoy and appreciate nature. The better we make the basin “for the birds,” the better it will be for humans.
