The east Ventura County office of the building and safety division office, which has been operated in leased space in Thousand Oaks will move Monday to the East County Courthouse in Simi Valley, Supervisor Vicky Howard announced Friday.

The move is expected to save the county $32,000 a year and will bring more services to the courthouse facility, Howard said in a statement.

“Whenever you need a lot of county services, either you have to go to some other city or to Ventura,” said Ritch Wells, an aide to Howard.

The county’s two other building and safety offices, in the county Government Center and in a Camarillo office, are unaffected by the move, officials said. Employees in the three offices dispense building permits and inspect completed construction.

Jerry Perry, supervisor of the department’s 11-member unit that will be moving from Thousand Oaks, said Friday his staff will be ready to go Monday at 8 a.m. in the new Simi Valley office at 3855-F Alamo St., Room 2019-A.

“We’re closing tonight and going to be open for business in the East County Courthouse Monday morning,” Perry said Friday.

The department’s new phone number will be 582-8064, effective Monday.
