In another girls’ match:

La Reina 3, Brentwood 2--Michelle Nuesca broke a 2-2 tie when she scored her second goal of the game with a minute to play in the second half of a Division IV semifinal at La Reina, giving the Regents their first berth in a soccer final.

La Reina (18-3-1) led, 2-0, at halftime on goals by Nuesca and Katie Russell, but the Eagles tied the match in the second half, setting the stage for Nuesca’s heroics.

BOYS

Alta Loma 3, Burroughs 2--The Braves took a 3-0 lead on three second-half goals and withstood the Indians’ comeback in a Division III semifinal at Burroughs.

With 10 minutes to play and Burroughs trailing, 3-0, Indian midfielder David Huerta forced an Alta Loma player to kick the ball into his own goal. Roberto Perez then scored with five minutes remaining, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Burroughs players thought they had tied the match when Perez fired a shot into the net from about 18 yards away as time expired, but the referee ruled that the whistle had blown ending the match prior to Perez’ shot.

Burroughs finished 21-3-2.

Kevin Posey, Diego Bocanegra and Rodney Lee scored for Alta Loma (24-2-3).

Santa Paula 2, Cabrillo 1 (OT)--Albert Perez scored both Santa Paula goals, the second on a penalty kick with two minutes left in overtime of the Division V semifinal at Santa Paula. The Cardinals will play fellow Frontier League member Calabasas for the championship on Friday at 4 p.m. at Gahr High.

Calabasas 4, Maranatha 1--Herbie Sirota’s goal gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead after only 2 minutes of play and host Calabasas jumped to a 3-0 lead after 25 minutes in a Division V semifinal to earn its first berth in a final since 1988.

Scott Gizer, Steve Thomas and Adam Cooper also scored for Calabasas (16-4-2). Aaron Johnson scored for top-seeded Maranatha (23-3).
