COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Uses Error to Win Conference Opener

Jennifer Johnson doubled and later scored on a throwing error in the seventh inning as Cypress beat Orange Coast, 1-0, in the Orange Empire Conference softball opener for both teams Wednesday at Cypress.

Leigh Sager (4-1) pitched a two-hitter for the victory for Cypress (12-4, 1-0 in conference). Jill Bishop (3-4), who made the error that allowed the run to score, took the loss for OCC (4-4, 0-1), the defending conference champion.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Rancho Santiago 3, Saddleback 1--Pitcher Jamie Parker had a two-run double and allowed seven hits and struck out four for visiting Rancho Santiago (5-6, 1-0). Saddleback is 10-2, 0-1.

Fullerton 13, Golden West 0--Pitcher Alicia Robles scattered eight hits for Fullerton (7-1-1, 1-0). Golden West is 2-2, 0-1.

Saddleback 370, San Diego Mesa 405, Riverside 406, Rancho Santiago 418--Jason Reeder shot a two-under par 70 and Jason McDaniel shot a 71 for Saddleback (8-1 in conference) at Moreno Valley Ranch.
