PREP ROUNDUP : Harr’s Victories Help El Toro Dominate Meet

Travis Harr won three events (400, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and ran on the winning 1,600 relay team to help El Toro to a 101 1/2-29 1/2 victory over Trabuco Hills in a nonleague boys’ track and field meet Thursday at Trabuco Hills.

Trabuco Hills’ Chad Pearce dominated the strength events, winning the shot put with a throw of 56-9 1/2 and the discus with a mark of 176-8 1/2.

In other nonleague boys’ track and field:

Fullerton 80, Brea-Olinda 67 1/2, La Serna 11 1/2--Sophomore Josh Staffieri, who also plays on the Fullerton’s junior varsity baseball team, won the 100 (11.7) and the 200 (23.6) for the Indians. Junior Walter Nelson won the triple jump (38-6) and the long jump (18-0).

In nonleague girls’ track and field:

Capistrano Valley 73, Villa Park 57--Megan Mayes won the 800 (2:29) and the 1,600 (5:33) for the host Cougars. Meghan Reppe won the 100 (12.6), the 200 (26.6) and the triple jump (33-7) for Villa Park.

In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:

Garden Grove 106, Rancho Alamitos 16--Shannon Travis broke the school record in the shot put with a mark of 35-11 for host Garden Grove. Travis, who broke the previous mark of 34-7 1/4 set by Allison Jenkins, also won the discus (105-0).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Beach 3, Dana Hills 0--David Berney had 33 assists and sophomore Dan Styles had 13 kills to lead Laguna Beach to a 15-8, 15-9, 15-5 victory. Beau Bianchi added 11 kills for the Artists (1-0). Dana Hills is 1-2.

Ocean View 3, Estancia 2--Brian Grace had 28 kills, Jim Harris had 56 assists and Dave Okerman 10 blocks for visiting Ocean View (1-1), which won 13-15, 10-15, 15-4, 15-13, 15-6.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Trabuco Hills 9, Capistrano Valley 9 (Trabuco Hills wins on games, 81-79)--Juro Letko, a senior exchange student from Slovakia, won his singles sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0, to help Trabuco Hills (1-0) beat Capistrano Valley (0-2) for the first time in school history.

Santa Margarita 12, San Clemente 6--Matt More won his sets in No. 1 singles for Santa Margarita, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. San Clemente’s No. 2 doubles team Jeff Shoemaker and Grant Karcher swept their sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.

In nonleague golf:

Trabuco Hills 415, Mission Viejo 457--Justin Grandy shot four-over 76 and Zachary Allen shot 77 for Trabuco Hills (1-0) in a match played over two days at the Mission Viejo and Coto de Caza country clubs.

Capistrano Valley 199, Laguna Hills 216--Jeff Cellini shot even-par 35 for Capistrano Valley (3-1) at Marbella Country Club.

El Modena 180, Orange Lutheran 210--Brian Cherrett shot a one-over 32 for El Modena (1-0) at Riverview. Rene Mendez had a 32 for Orange Lutheran (1-1).
