OUTLOOK

Like Century, Estancia enters this season hoping to rebuild with a crop of promising young players who have yet to be tested at the varsity level. The Eagles have reached the playoffs eight of the past nine seasons, but they’ll be hard-pressed to do so this year. Senior pitcher Matt Johner, Estancia’s sole returning starter, decided to skip baseball and lift weights in preparation for his freshman football season at Kansas. Also gone are graduated third baseman Victor Ramirez, a first-team all-league player, and Kyle Wilson, an all-league pitcher. In all, six all-league players have graduated, leaving Millard and Troxel with a young, inexperienced team. “You could definitely call this a rebuilding year,” Troxel said. “Hopefully, we can be competitive by the league season. We have a good nucleus for the future.” The Eagles have been tough in this league since joining in 1991. They tied with Laguna Hills for the title that year and were third last season.
