COLLEGE BASKETBALL PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP : Cal Turns Things Around by Defeating Arizona State
The records are now identical, but nothing else comes close when comparing California to Arizona State these days.
“We were bad,” Arizona State Coach Bill Frieder said after his team was beaten, 91-67, by the Bears on Saturday at Oakland Coliseum. “And they’re just excellent. That’s a real talented basketball team.”
California, like Arizona State, is 17-8 overall and 10-6 in the Pac-10. The Bears have won seven of eight games under interim Coach Todd Bozeman, the former assistant who took over when Lou Campanelli was fired last month.
Cal avenged a 90-83 loss to the Sun Devils in Tempe, a game played on what turned out to be Campanelli’s last trip.
Oregon State 54, Oregon 48--Mustapha Hoff scored 14 points at Eugene as Oregon State (12-13, 8-8) took a 25-12 halftime lead and held on. Oregon (9-19, 2-14) made only two of 20 field goals and committed 16 turnovers in the first half.
