OUTLOOK
This could be the best team University has had since 1985, when the Trojans won the league. Conlin said he has the school’s most talented team in 10 years. Hagins could be the best catcher in the county. Baseball America magazine ranks him 17th on their list of the 60 top high school players. Hagins, a three-year letterman, hit .468 and with six home runs and 28 runs batted in last season. He was named third-team All--Southern Section. He is surrounded by other quality players. Illingworth and MacDermott give the Trojans two good left-handed starters. Toomey also will see plenty of time on the mound, giving the Trojans depth. The whole left side of the infield is back, as well as Wei, who saw extensive duty in left field. The Trojans finished last in 1990 and 1991, before making the climb to third place last season. They missed out on the playoffs because of a tiebreaker, which sent Corona del Mar instead. University is expected to at least make the playoffs this time around.
