OUTLOOK

O’Donoghue replaces Vince Brown and inherits a team that reached the 3-A semifinals last season, but has only two returning starters. The Tillers have won three consecutive league titles but will probably be scrapping for a playoff spot this season. Still, that’s attainable. Baker is a talent. He was named first-team all-league as a sophomore and will only get better. The Tillers also have a good core of returning players, who are used to winning. Someone will have to step up to replace Nick Cantu and Zach Elliott, both of whom were .400 hitters last season. The Tillers will carry two sophomores and freshmen, including Gallegos, who probably will start at shortstop. The big key is pitching. Wilson is the ace, at least for now, but he didn’t pitch much last season. Some consistency must be found from Hall, who will be the No. 2 starter, and Helsper, who figures to see a lot of time. “I think we’re going to be a pretty good hitting team and a decent fielding team,” O’Donoghue said. “But are pitchers are untested.”
