Striped Bass Are Biting in the Shallows
It’s the time of year bass fishermen have been waiting for, and yes, the fish are moving into the shallows and getting ready to spawn at several Southland reservoirs.
Lakes Casitas, Cachuma and Piru in Ventura County have been the most productive.
John Graff of Alhambra took the biggest bass of the week, a 13-pounder caught at Casitas on a black Power Worm. At Cachuma, Santa Maria’s Ryan McRae, 7, while fishing with his father, caught eight bass totaling 20 pounds, the largest a 7-pounder.
At Piru, Missouri’s Bill Speck and John Kreipler, fishing with guide Ron Cervenka, caught and released five bass averaging about five pounds.
