PREP ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Pounds Santa Ana Valley in Baseball

Chris Woody had three hits and Ryan Locanto hit two doubles as Mater Dei defeated Santa Ana Valley, 18-1, in the quarterfinals of the Newport Elks baseball tournament Tuesday.

Mater Dei, which stole four bases, will face Esperanza in the semifinals Thursday.

In other tournament quarterfinals:

Tustin 14, Corona del Mar 3--Justin Lloyd had two hits, scored four runs, and drove in two for Tustin (3-1). Dave Angeloni hit a two-run home run for Corona del Mar (1-1).

Capistrano Valley 5, Trabuco Hills 2--Peter Zamora hit a two-run homer in third inning and Brodie Lefebvre singled in the winning run for host Capistrano Valley (2-0).

Esperanza 10, Saddleback 1--Jason Murrietta had four hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs for host Esperanza (2-0). Scott Hild, who only allowed a leadoff single in the second, pitched four innings to earn the victory.

In Loara Tournament quarterfinals:

Irvine 8, Villa Park 1--Tommy Louie earned the victory for Irvine (3-0), allowing six hits, no walks and striking out six hitters. Louie had a home run in the sixth. First baseman Ryan Jones hit two home runs for host Irvine.

Huntington Beach 5, El Dorado 2--Donny May pitched a complete game to earn the victory for host Huntington Beach in a quarterfinal. Jeff Moore had two hits and an RBI for El Dorado (2-1).

In the El Segundo Tournament:

La Mirada 11, Brea-Olinda 10--Danny Miller had three hits for Brea-Olinda (2-1). La Mirada improved to 3-0.

In the Corona softball tournament:

Southern California Christian 10, Downey Calvary Chapel 0 (5, mercy)--Candle Silva pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for SCC (2-0).

In nonleague softball:

Costa Mesa 19, Riverside La Sierra 1 (5, mercy)--Ana Ospina pitched her second consecutive no-hitter for host Costa Mesa (3-0).

Orange 19, Estancia 0 --Sheryl Anderson pitched a perfect game, striking out eight, for host Orange (2-1).
