One Ventura County firefighter suffered a minor injury Friday night in a blaze at a Casitas Springs house, officials said.

The fire, which generated flames of 30 to 50 feet, was contained within an hour after it was reported at 8:44 p.m.

About 40 firefighters and six engines responded to the second-alarm fire. One person was in the house when the fire began, but got out safely.

“I saw a ball of fire and my neighbor come running out,” said Gloria Castillo, who lives next door to the badly damaged building.

Castillo said she watched nervously as the building burned within several feet of her mobile home at 40 Ranch Road.

“My neighbor’s washroom is right up on the back of my fence,” Castillo said. “It was kind of scary.”

Battalion Chief Mark Sanchez said there was a report of explosions during the fire, which may have been caused by ammunition in the house.

The injured firefighter was not identified. He suffered a twisted knee, Sanchez said.
