Finney and Oscar

I am continually amazed at articles about actors and actresses that incorrectly state how many Oscar nominations they have. I would think that it wouldn’t be hard to look up such information as part of complete research on the performer.

In “Finney’s Fortunes” (Feb. 28), Nikki Finke states that Albert Finney received his first of two nominations for “Murder on the Orient Express.” This was his second of four nominations for best actor. The first was for the film the author writes about as his breakthrough, “Tom Jones,” the others for “The Dresser” and “Under the Volcano.”

It is frustrating that more care can’t be taken with these details. It may seem minor to some people if an actor has two or three nominations, but when an author misstates such a simple fact, it makes me wonder what else he or she may be misstating.
