COLLEGE BASKETBALL PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP : Cal Escapes Oregon With a 79-76 Victory

Lamond Murray had 28 points and California survived a scare from Oregon with a 79-76 victory Saturday night in a Pacific 10 Conference regular-season finale at Eugene, Ore.

Cal has won nine of 10 games since Todd Bozeman replaced fired Coach Lou Campanelli.

The Bears (19-8 overall, 12-6 in the Pac-10), who are expected to get an invitation to the NCAA tournament, did not take the lead until the 14:22 mark of the second half and built a 65-57 lead with nine minutes left.

Oregon (10-20, 3-15) cut the lead to two points at 66-64, but Alfred Grigsby and Akili Jones scored consecutive baskets to give Cal a 70-64 lead with 6:40 left.

Orlando Williams and Antoine Stoudamire each hit three-pointers in the final four minutes to trim Cal’s lead to two. But Williams threw the ball away with 16 second remaining and Stoudamire missed a 30-footer at the buzzer.

Stoudamire, who had 29 points, scored 12 points as Oregon opened a 20-7 lead while Cal missed 11 of its first 13 shots.

Oregon State 82, Stanford 65--Chad Scott had 17 points and the Beavers put away the Cardinal by scoring the last 15 points at Corvallis, Ore.

Scott Haskin had 15 points and nine rebounds for Oregon State (13-14, 9-9). Brent Williams scored 14 points for Stanford (7-22, 2-16).

Washington State 72, Washington 59--Bennie Seltzer scored 23 of his 32 points in the first half and and Cougars defeated the Huskies at Seattle.

Washington State (15-12, 9-9) is hoping for a bid to the National Invitation Tournament.

Rich Manning had 22 points for Washington (13-14, 7-11).
