OXNARD : Boy, 16, Arrested in Carjack Attempt
Oxnard police arrested a 16-year-old Oxnard boy on charges of attempted robbery about 7 p.m. Sunday after the boy tried to hijack a car, authorities said.
The car was stopped for traffic when a young man tried to pull the driver from the car, police said. However, the driver sped off. No weapon was used in the attack, police said. The suspect’s name was withheld because of his age.
Off-duty police Officer Joe Kaniewski, who witnessed the incident at Oxnard Boulevard and Robert Avenue, alerted two other officers and followed the suspect to another vehicle, where he was taken into custody and booked at juvenile hall, police said.
