The 1987 A Tiger’s Tale (KTLA Sunday at 6 p.m. Saturday at 4 a.m.), one of those mythical rural Texas tales where raw-boned hunks and lusty ladies spoon under a Dolly Parton moon, is so bad in its unabashed silliness that it’s almost perversely entertaining. Ann-Margret and C. Thomas Howell star.

Sydney Pollack’s lush 1985 production Out of Africa (KTLA Monday at 8 p.m., concluding Tuesday at 8 p.m.) takes us to unspoiled Kenya in 1914 with the Danish aristocrat Karen Blixen, who became a storyteller of the first order under her pen name Isak Dinesen--and was enough of a snob to marry a title. There’s much that’s wonderful about the film, starting with Meryl Streep’s usual impeccable performance as the extraordinarily gifted and complex Blixen and the film’s glorious settings. Co-starring Robert Redford.

Jagged Edge (KTTV Monday at 8 p.m.) may vanish from memory like an old grocery list, but while you’re in it you’re caught. Shocked, intrigued, confused, unnerved and finally snapped right back into your seat with fright, you’re held all the way with this 1985 hit. It’s a roller-coaster ride in San Francisco’s playgrounds of the privileged in which attorney Glenn Close defends Jeff Bridges, accused of murdering his newspaper-heiress wife.

The slick, violent 1990 Kindergarten Cop (NBC Monday at 8:30 p.m.) unveiled the kinder, superficially gentler Arnold Schwarzenegger as an undercover police officer who winds up teaching little kids as part of his job.

Back to the Streets of San Francisco (NBC Tuesday at 8 p.m.) is a routine 1992 TV movie in which Karl Malden reprises his role from the ‘70s TV series as a police detective, this time tracking down the killer of his partner (Michael Douglas, seen only in vintage clips).

The French Connection (KTLA Thursday at 8 p.m.), surely one of the most exciting--and brutal--movies ever made, stars Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider as two Manhattan narcotics detectives onto a haul of heroin worth $32 million. This slam-bang, suspenseful, sardonically funny, furious-paced 1971 melodrama is justly famous for its chase sequence.

KCET’s Saturday night double feature imaginatively teams the 1958 Auntie Mame (KCET Saturday at 9 p.m.) with Rosalind Russell and the 1972 Travels With My Aunt (KCET Saturday at 11:30 p.m.) with Maggie Smith.
