Eric Lindros scored three goals Wednesday night, including a disputed game-winner with 3:49 to play, in leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers at New York.

Lindros completed the third hat trick of his rookie season when a shot by Greg Hawgood from the deep slot deflected into the net off his body.

“I guess anytime you go to the net something happens,” he said.

Lindros’ 35th goal set a franchise rookie record. Brian Propp scored 34 goals for the Flyers as a rookie during the 1979-80 season.

Ranger goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck complained that Lindros was standing in the crease, but video-replay judge John Damante let the goal stand.

The Flyers won at Madison Square Garden for the first time since Dec. 10, 1989, a span during which they were 0-11-1.

Philadelphia’s rally from a 4-2 deficit spoiled a three-goal effort by Ed Olczyk of the Rangers--the third hat trick of his career.

Montreal 6, Hartford 5--Vincent Damphousse scored 2:01 into overtime at Hartford, Conn.

Damphousse, skating up the slot, took a centering pass from Brian Bellows and beat Mario Gosselin to his glove side with a wrist shot.

Hartford tied an NHL record with its eighth overtime loss.

Boston 2, Buffalo 0--Adam Oates and Ray Bourque scored first-period goals and goaltender Andy Moog made 21 saves for the Bruins at Buffalo.

Moog’s shutout was his first of the season. He made three saves on Buffalo’s Donald Audette, including a second-period breakaway, but the Sabres had few good scoring chances.

The Bruins have won seven of their last eight games and nine of their last 11.

St. Louis 4, Calgary 2--Brendan Shanahan scored two goals for the Blues at Calgary.
