GOINGS ON / SANTA BARBARA : Hooked on Fish Tales : A locally written ocean-life book was so popular it’s been reissued. The author will be at Sea Center to sign the new copies.

Hillary Hauser knows fish.

That’s no surprise, considering the Summerland writer-artist spent 15 years writing the “Fish of the Month” column for Skin Diver magazine.

A sampling of those columns--about trumpetfish, grunts, croakers, goatfish, angelfish, moray eels, parrotfish, left-eye flounders and other sea life--was published as the “Book of Fishes” in 1984.

Now, about 30,000 copies later, that book has been reissued in slightly revised form, with some new fish, color photos by top underwater photographers and a chart on the evolution of fish. The second edition features 100 fish from around the world.

Hauser will be signing the new book Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Sea Center on Santa Barbara’s Stearns Wharf.

Hauser, who will have some of her fish paintings on sale at the book signing, appreciates the beauty of fish. “From the standpoint of art,” she said, “I don’t know of anything more colorful in the animal kingdom.”

Veteran television and film actor David Groh (best known for his role as Valerie Harper’s husband on “Rhoda”) will star in the Lobero Theatre-Pasadena Playhouse production of “The Twilight of the Golds,” opening tonight. The emotional comedy centers around a traditional New York family caught up in a modern world.

“Golds” kicks off the second season of the Lobero-Playhouse collaboration. Preview performances, tonight and Friday, will begin at 8 p.m., with admission $27.50. Regular shows will be presented Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. through April 11. Admission is $31.50. Call 963-0761. The Lobero is at 33 E. The 90-member Santa Barbara Choral Society will perform the “Durufle Requiem” by Maurice Durufle, and the “Five Mystical Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, in concerts Saturday and Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara.

“Durufle Requiem” is based on Gregorian chant. The “Five Mystical Songs” represents 300 years of English musical styles and incorporates the writings of English poet George Herbert.

Saturday’s concert will begin at 8 p.m., Sunday’s concert is at 4 p.m. Admission is $15 (general) and $12 (seniors, students, disabled). Call 965-7905. The church is at 21 E. Constance Ave.

The improvisational troupe Zero Gravity Theatre (a.k.a. Fourplay, Chain Reaction and Cahoots) will end a 16-year stay in Santa Barbara with a farewell concert Sunday night at the Center Stage Theater. Founder Brad Bronk and his wife Tana Quimby Bronk are moving to Madison, Wis.

Alumni, including co-founder Bruce Caudle and Brian Brophy (whose acting credits include “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “The Player”) are planning to return for the occasion. A show by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, scheduled for April 3 at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theatre, has been canceled. But the two performances by magician David Copperfield, set for April 28, are still on. Show times will be 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for $25.50. Call 963-4408.
