Attorney Speaks of ‘Exoneration’

Share

This statement was released Thursday by Paul S. Meyer, attorney for former Orange County Supervisor Don R. Roth, who was convicted of seven misdemeanors:

The closure of this case exonerates ex-Supervisor Roth from allegations of corruption and dishonesty. The district attorney investigation was thorough and complete and the resulting charges do represent the violations which did occur. These types of technical violations are properly settled by fine and community service. It is fitting that the type of community service required is that in which Don Roth was already engaged: helping the youth of Anaheim.

While Don Roth is saddened that any charges were brought at all, he recognizes that even technical violations must be investigated if government is to maintain the confidence of the people. It is regrettable that the investigation was so long and highly charged that it became impossible for Don Roth to continue on in an effective capacity. In another atmosphere, civil violations may have been deemed appropriate. It is gratifying to have verification that media rumors of perjury, undue influence and other serious misconduct were totally and completely unfounded.

Don Roth wishes to thank those who sent hundreds of cards and letters and countless phone calls in support. Nearly 20 years of service to the people of Orange County has certainly not gone unrecognized. He is profoundly moved by the outpouring.

Don Roth has devoted a large portion of his life to service to the community, and he expects to be vigorously involved in the future. For the present time, the Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim is making an exciting new move and can use all the help they can get. He invites you to join him in rolling up his sleeves and helping out.
