Doug Case has been named head football coach at Rancho Alamitos High, Principal Tom Robins said Monday.

Case, 29, played quarterback at Rancho Alamitos and graduated in 1981. He has been an assistant coach there the past eight seasons, including six under Mark Miller, who resigned as coach in January.

Case graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 1988 with a degree in history and has taught the subject at Rancho Alamitos the past three years.

He takes over a program that finished 11-3 last season and reached the Southern Section Division VII championship game.

“The thing about him that attracted us is that he’s a native son,” Robins said of Case. “He was born in Anaheim, grew up in Stanton and he went to school here.

“He knows the kids, the area and the school very well, and he relates well to our kids. Rather than go outside and hire a stranger, we thought he was a much better candidate.”
