Long Beach : Hearing Set on Proposed Move of Blue Line Station

Residents interested in a proposal to move the Blue Line Station on Wardlow Road about half a mile north are invited to a public hearing Wednesday.

Transportation officials are considering moving the station at Wardlow Roand and Pacific Place because the site has too few parking spaces, said Brynn Kernaghan, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Emphasizing that no decision has been made on the move, Kernaghan said, “We want to hear what (residents’) concerns are.”

Mike Kowal, president of a neighborhood group called Los Cerritos Improvement Assn., said that the area already is disturbed by noise from the Blue Line trains and that residents fear more problems if the station is moved. Kowal also said many residents are angry that they have yet to be consulted on a proposal that could affect their neighborhood.

“There’s just been monumental rumors about this, and the community’s feeling is we’d like to know what it’s all about,” Kowal said.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. in the Los Cerritos Elementary School auditorium, 515 W. San Antonio Road.
