Boseman and Jackson Earn Player-of-the-Year Honors : Preps: Morningside forward is selected top player in Southern Section Division III and Serra center is selected in Division IV.

Morningside High forward Stais Boseman and Serra center Akeli Jackson have been named players of the year in their respective Southern Section divisions by the Amateur Athletic Foundation-First Interstate Bank board of athletics.

Boseman, a 6-foot-4 senior, was named Division III player of the year for the second consecutive season. The USC recruit led Morningside with averages of 17.9 points and 7.1 rebounds, helping the Monarchs (29-6) to their second consecutive Division III-AA title and a return trip to the state final.

Jackson, a 6-8 senior who will play for Cal State Long Beach next season, was named Division IV player of the year. Jackson led Serra (26-7) to the Division IV-A title and its first state championship, averaging 23.2 points and an area-leading 14 rebounds.

Boseman, a three-time All-Southern Section selection, was joined on the Division III team by three other Morningside seniors. Guard Donminic Ellison was named to the first team, and forward Dwight Curry and center Corey Saffold were second-team selections.

Other area seniors named to the Division III first team were point guard Jimmy Williamson and center Kyle McIntosh of South Torrance and center Andre English of Bishop Montgomery. Junior guard Jayson Sanders of Bishop Montgomery was a second-team choice.

Three of Jackson’s Serra teammates and three other area seniors were named to the Division IV team. Serra forward Michael Boyd and St. Bernard guard Terrell Hickmon were chosen to the first team. Second-team honors went to point guard Alex Davis and forward Arthur Tate of Serra, forward Aaron Willett of El Segundo and guard Darren Mitchell of St. Bernard.

Two players from Division V-AA runner-up Chadwick were named to the Division V team. Senior guard Dylan Brown was a first-team choice and junior guard Neil Thakur was named to the second team. Rick Martinez of Ambassador Christian and Scott Thomas of division champion Brethren Christian were named co-players of the year.
