COUNTY NOTES : Ex-Anteater Kronemann Will Join Dukes This Season

Share

Trevor Kronemann, former UC Irvine All-American, will join three returning players on the Newport Beach Dukes’ roster this summer in World TeamTennis. The 13-year-old league announced its 1993 rosters Thursday.

Kronemann, who spent last season with the San Antonio Racquets, had been coveted by Dukes owner Fred Lieberman, who had praised him as “a perfect fit for TeamTennis” because of his big serve and intimidating nature.

Amy Frazier and Rikard Bergh, whose singles play helped the Dukes reach last season’s championship match, will return, as will Katrina Adams, who left the team early to have surgery.

The 12-team league will feature five players who have won Grand Slam singles titles. Tracy Austin (Raleigh Edge), Bjorn Borg (Los Angeles Strings) and Mats Wilander (New Jersey Stars) are new to the league. Jimmy Connors (Phoenix Smash) and Martina Navratilova (Atlanta Thunder) return for a third consecutive season.
