TV REVIEWS : KSCI’s ‘Get Real’ Addresses Teen Sex

Share

Multilingual station KSCI-TV Channel 18 frankly addresses Asian Pacific Islanders’ “difficulty in talking about sex” in the premiere episode of its monthly, English-language talk show for teens, “Get Real,” Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The format is simple, with actress Amy Hill as the amiable host, chatting with a group of somewhat reticent young people, interspersing the talk with her humorous improv spots. The first segment deals with AIDS awareness and sex, subjects that the teens on the show obviously find difficult to go public with. Hill has to work at drawing them out.

Gradually, with some input from a health expert, the topics of conversation include condoms, myths and prejudices about AIDS, and the conservatism of many Asian Pacific parents.

Subsequent segments will air on the first Sunday of each month and will deal with such issues as gangs, drugs, relationships and racism.
