South Carolina, jilted by Georgia Tech Coach Bobby Cremins, will get Vanderbilt’s Eddie Fogler, sources told the Associated Press on Friday.

Sources said Fogler, the AP coach of the year, has decided to accept an offer to coach the Gamecocks.

“It’s a done deal,” one source close to the university said.

“I think we’ve got a great coach and he’s going to do well,” another source close to the selection process told the AP. “To have the coach of the year, he would be hard to beat.”

Earlier Friday, school spokesman Kerry Tharp said no formal contract offer had been made.

“We never really have felt that we were up against a time deadline,” he said.

Fogler, who visited the campus Tuesday, was at the Final Four in New Orleans and wasn’t talking.

“I’m the coach at Vanderbilt. That’s why I’m here. I’ll talk about Vanderbilt,” he said when asked about the South Carolina job.

The Charlotte Observer said South Carolina was prepared to offer Fogler a seven-year deal that would total almost $4 million.
