Quaint No More

I am another who is dismayed by Los Angeles. I live in Sherman Oaks and just watch it go downhill.

The most charming block on Ventura Boulevard was bought out and has been standing vacant for years. Crown Books turned into “Super” Crown Books, ruining with obnoxious red plastic letters the somewhat quaint look of the shopping center it shares with small restaurants and a homeopathic drugstore.

Now in the same shopping center where once stood a bank there will be an In and Out Burger. I was hoping for something with some architecture on that very visible corner. Why can’t we have some controls on how many fast-food restaurants go in and where they go in? Our community doesn’t need another burger joint.

If we were nervous about the number of people moving here for our beauty and lifestyle, worry no more. It’s ugly here. Now we’ll only attract the greedy.
