Corona Chick, the quarter horse filly who won 13 consecutive races at Los Alamitos and Hollywood Park in 1991-92, has been retired because of a leg injury, owner Bob Etchandy said Thursday.

The tendon injury was discovered Monday, the day after the 4-year-old had completed a training session at Fairplex Park in Pomona. Etchandy, of Anaheim Hills, had expected to race his prize filly this year.

“It’s going to seem weird without her,” he said. “I’ll never have another horse like her.”

Corona Chick’s winning streak stretched from August of 1991 to August of 1992. She was national 2-year-old champion and 2-year-old champion filly in 1991 and 3-year-old champion filly last year. She won 15 of her 18 races and earned $591,326.
