COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Powell Powers Titans Past UNLV, 22-4

Dante Powell had four hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in eight runs to lead Cal State Fullerton past Nevada Las Vegas, 22-4, in a Big West Conference baseball game Friday night in Las Vegas.

Powell’s three-run home run highlighted an 11-run outburst in the sixth when the Titans took a 16-2 lead.

Titan starter Dan Ricabal retired the last 13 batters he faced, pitching eight innings to earn his sixth victory.

Fullerton (24-9, 13-1 in conference) supplemented its 17-hit attack with a Big West Conference-record 16 walks.

D.C. Olsen had three hits, five runs scored and three runs batted in and Adam Millan had three RBIs and hit his first home run of the season for Fullerton. The Rebels are 13-17, 4-7.

In nonconference baseball:

Fresno State 12, Chapman 0--Mark Cruise pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk for host Fresno State. Fresno State used 10 hits, six walks and six Chapman errors to score seven unearned runs.

In the UC San Diego softball tournament:

SCC advances--Southern California College (26-15-2) posted two victories to finish second in its pool and advance to single-elimination play.

Cherlynn Gordon had three hits, including a home run, and Renee Hernandez had three hits and two RBIs to lead SCC to a 6-2 victory over Cal Baptist. In the second game, Celeste Gordon had two hits and two RBIs for SCC in a 6-0 victory over Cal Lutheran.

In Big West Conference women’s tennis:

UC Santa Barbara 7, UC Irvine 2--The No. 1 doubles team of Krista Kuechler and Michelle Manley won their match, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, for Irvine (6-11).
