NHL ROUNDUP : Ottawa Ends Record Streak, 5-3

Ottawa’s record road losing streak came to an end at 38 games Saturday night as Laurie Boschman scored two goals during the last minute to complete a hat trick and give the Senators a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders at Uniondale, N.Y.

With 38 consecutive road losses from the start of the season, the expansion Senators had eclipsed the mark of 37 set by the 1974-75 Washington Capitals.

The Senators, who had lost 14 in a row overall, broke the mark with a 7-3 loss at Hartford on Wednesday and appeared headed for another loss on Saturday night before scoring the game’s last three goals.

Pittsburgh 4, N.Y. Rangers 2--The Penguins extended their NHL-record winning streak to 17 games at Pittsburgh, dealing a blow to the Rangers’ playoff hopes.

The Penguins, who defeated the Rangers, 10-4, Friday night at New York, got a short-handed goal from Rick Tocchet to go ahead.

With only three games to play, the Rangers remained three points behind the New York Islanders for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Patrick Division.

Boston 5, Montreal 1--Cam Neely scored two goals and set up another at Montreal, helping the Bruins clinch first place in the Adams Division.

Ted Donato, Dave Poulin and Glen Wesley also scored for the Bruins, who have a five-point lead over Montreal and Quebec. All three clubs have two regular-season games remaining.

Chicago 4, Tampa Bay 2--Jeremy Roenick scored two goals for the Blackhawks, who won at Tampa to remain tied for first place in the Norris Division with the Detroit Red Wings. Chicago has three games left, Detroit one.

Detroit 6, Buffalo 5--Paul Ysebaert’s 33rd goal, at 17:33 of the third period, gave the Red Wings the victory at Detroit.

Ysebaert, who also had two assists, took a pass from Sergei Fedorov, split Pat LaFontaine and Alexander Mogilny and rifled a wrist shot over Grant Fuhr’s shoulder for the winner.

New Jersey 5, Washington 3--The Devils clinched a playoff spot with the victory at Landover, Md., getting a 44-save effort from goaltender Craig Billington.

Minnesota 4, St. Louis 3--Jon Casey made 27 saves at Bloomington, Minn., helping the North Stars open a one-point lead over the Blues in the race for the final Norris Division playoff spot.

Philadelphia 4, Toronto 0--Eric Lindros had a goal and two assists at Toronto as the Flyers kept their faint playoff hopes alive.

Quebec 6, Hartford 3--Joe Sakic had four points at Quebec to help the Nordiques end a three-game losing streak.
