Street Resurfacing Near Completion

The project to resurface Reseda Boulevard, which has snarled traffic north of Kittridge Street since last November, should be completed by mid-May, according to city engineers.

Workers finished the longest section of the road, between Kittridge Street and Roscoe Boulevard, last week, with two sections still to go, between Roscoe and Lassen Street, and between San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Devonshire Street.

The paving will progress in intervals over the next month, moving north on Reseda, said Richard Evans, street maintenance superintendent for the city’s street resurfacing division in the San Fernando Valley.

In recent years, the city has resurfaced most major boulevards in the West Valley.

“Reseda has been on the list for a while,” said Evans.

Tom Hilborn, president of the Reseda Chamber of Commerce, said that although some business people in the area have viewed the project as an “absolute nightmare” of tied-up traffic and scarce parking, most think the improvement will be worth the inconvenience.

“At least it’s finally getting done, it was pretty gnarly before,” he said.

The street department will next turn to the East Valley to carry out a similar series of repaving projects there, Evans said.
