Palomar College Forward Says He’ll Play for Titans, Not Sooners

Darren Little, a 6-foot-8 forward from Palomar Community College in San Marcos, has made an oral commitment to Cal State Fullerton.

Little, who averaged 16.6 points and 10.9 rebounds last season, said Monday evening that he would sign a letter of intent with the Titans on Wednesday, the first day of the national signing period.

He had little comment otherwise, saying he was in the middle of a few things and did not have time to talk. The news of his commitment, though, came as a shock to Palomar Coach Richard Johnson.

“I’m really surprised, I’ll be honest with you,” Johnson said. “I talked with (Oklahoma Coach) Billy Tubbs on Thursday and he thought Darren was going to Oklahoma.”

Little took his official visits to South Florida, San Diego State, San Jose State, Oklahoma and Grand Canyon College, a Division II school in Phoenix, according to Johnson.

“He’s a great athlete,” Johnson said. “He’ll do well, I hope. Athletically, he’s as good or better than anybody I’ve ever coached, and I’ve coached five guys who were in the NBA.”

During his three years as an assistant at Georgia, Johnson worked with Willie Anderson (San Antonio Spurs), Litterial Green (Orlando Magic), Alec Kessler (Miami Heat), Elmore Spencer (Clippers) and Tony Mack, who was with the Philadelphia 76ers briefly last season.
