PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Key Bunt Helps Loara Upset No. 2 Los Alamitos

Loara scored four runs in the fourth inning and beat Los Alamitos, ranked second in Orange County, 4-1, in its Empire League softball opener Tuesday.
Loara (12-3, 1-0) tied the score with its first run and then with runners on second and third running, freshman Dawn White got a bunt single and Remy Amaro and Kathy Shirley scored.
Tammy Hyde (7-2), who allowed four hits in the complete-game victory, also had two hits for the Saxons. Los Alamitos is 12-2, 0-1.
In other Empire League games:
Cypress 12, Esperanza 1--Kim Lumsdaine pitched a no-hitter, allowing an unearned run in the third inning and walked none for Cypress (6-10, 1-0).
Katella 1, El Dorado 0--Melissa Benbow hit a fourth-inning, leadoff home run and Kelsi Armbruster pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for visiting Katella (10-6, 1-0). Pitcher Kelli Tom allowed only three hits and struck out eight for El Dorado (9-4, 0-1).
In the Century League:
Canyon 9, Santa Ana Valley 1--Nina Lindenberg, Jennifer Broughton, Jamie Al-Moradi and Allison Rudd each had three hits for host Canyon (10-7, 1-0). Santa Ana Valley is 6-10, 0-1.
Foothill 7, Orange 0--Michelle Churnock went two for four, scored two runs and stole four bases to give her 17 this season for Foothill (11-7, 1-0). Orange is 10-4, 0-1.
Villa Park 2, El Modena 1 (8 innings)--Villa Park’s Brandee McArthur doubled to lead off the eighth and scored the winning run on Julie Riley’s single. McArthur earned the victory pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts.
In the Freeway league:
La Habra 2, Fullerton 0 (11 innings)--Dede Miranda hit a two-run home run in the top of the 11th for host La Habra (13-3, 1-0). La Habra pitcher Danielle Ortega worked out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the 11th.
Troy 2, Sonora 1--Troy’s Hedi Schmidt struck out 10 and gave up only two hits to earn her seventh victory of the season for the Warriors (11-5, 1-0).
In Orange League softball:
Brea-Olinda 17, Anaheim 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Shannon Nelson had two doubles and three RBIs and Nicole Graner and Stephanie Carew each had three hits and two RBIs for visiting Brea-Olinda (9-8, 1-0).
Savanna 1, Western 0--Sara Works singled in Sandra Mulder in the third inning for Savanna (4-7-1, 1-0).
Valencia 6, Magnolia 4--Michelle Prager went two for three with two RBIs for Valencia (2-6, 1-0).
In the Olympic League:
Brethren Christian 7, Calvary Chapel 3--Michelle Rueter struck out 16 and Tammy Judd had two doubles and four runs batted in for Brethren Christian (7-6, 4-1). Calvary Chapel is 3-13, 2-2.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 8, Estancia 7--Ana Ospina struck out seven and won her seventh game for host Costa Mesa (7-3, 1-0).
Laguna Hills 23, Laguna Beach 2--Freshman Amber Journell had three hits, including a two-run home run and a triple for Laguna Hills (10-5, 1-0).
Trabuco Hills 10, Century 0 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Stephanie Rapel had three hits and a home run and Theresa Suma had three hits and three RBIs for the host Mustangs (4-11, 1-0).
