COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress’ DesRoches Arrives in Time to Hold Off Riverside

Cypress relief pitcher Mike DesRoches struck out Shane Lyman with the tying run on second to end the game and preserve a 7-6 victory over Riverside Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game at Cypress.
DesRoches allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings to earn his seventh save. Eric Stevens had two hits and scored three runs and Ryan Hamilton had three hits for Cypress (22-11, 9-7 in conference).
Bobby Jones had two runs batted in for Riverside (21-11, 7-7).
In another Orange Empire conference game:
Orange Coast 14, Golden West 6--Kyle Wilson allowed four runs in eight innings while striking out seven and walking two for Orange Coast (19-12, 9-5), Justin Halper hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Pirates, who pulled within a half-game of conference-leading Rancho Santiago.
Phil Ruhl went three for four with a double, two runs scored and one RBI for host Golden West (9-15-1, 3-10-1).
Saddleback 13, Fullerton 10--Rich Tetreault hit a three-run home run in a seven-run sixth for host Fullerton (14-17, 4-10). Wade Jackson had four hits and three RBIs for Saddleback (23-9, 9-7).
In nonconference softball:
Irvine Valley 10, SD City 9--Desiree Lesicko had three hits including a triple and an RBI and Tamara Trueblood had two hits and two runs scored for host Irvine Valley (5-18).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Saddleback 5, Golden West 4--Cathy Smith and Kindra Howard rallied to win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, in the decisive match in No. 2 doubles at Golden West. Smith was also victorious in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, for Saddleback (7-5, 6-5).
