Long Beach : 12 Arson Fires in 2 Days Are Set at Downtown Mall
The downtown Long Beach mall has had a rash of small fires this week as an arsonist set blazes in six cars and six trash chutes, the Fire Department reported.
One car was destroyed, but most of the other damage was minor, said Fire Department spokesman Bob Caldon.
Security at the Long Beach Plaza Mall has been stepped up since the blazes Monday and Tuesday, Caldon said. Fire investigators suspect that the arsonist may work or shop at the mall.
“We feel this is possibly a disgruntled employee or someone who’s trying to get revenge against the mall,” Caldon said Wednesday.
