COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Shuts Out Irvine Valley, Keeps Softball Lead

Carrie Reynolds, Leigh Sager and Kim Taylor combined on a two-hitter to lead Cypress to a 5-0 victory over Irvine Valley in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday.
Kerry Moloney and Carrie Frederick each had two hits for the Chargers (38-15, 11-2 in conference), who remained one game ahead of second-place Orange Coast. Irvine Valley is 5-19, 1-12.
In other Orange Empire Conference games:
Orange Coast 2, Rancho Santiago 0--With two outs in the third, Nicole Shammus tripled to score Stephanie Ritchey for OCC (18-10, 10-3).
Jamie Parker struck out six and walked three for Rancho Santiago (14-16, 7-6). Parker needs seven more strikeouts to break Joyce Lyman’s single-season school record of 131.
Fullerton 2, Saddleback 0--Alicia Robles pitched a shutout for Fullerton (21-9-1, 9-4), working out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the seventh. Saddleback is 20-12, 5-8.
Riverside 5, Golden West 0--Gale Copeland pitched a three-hitter and Misty Marquis had three hits and three RBIs for Riverside (13-9, 7-6), which won its sixth in a row.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Irvine Valley 3, Palomar 0--Zolti Casanyi had 17 kills to lead Irvine Valley (14-1, 13-1) to a 15-9, 15-11, 15-4 victory. Palomar is 5-9 in conference.
Orange Coast 3, Golden West 0--Dave Kellar led Orange Coast with 21 kills and Lance Perry had 16 kills for Orange Coast, which won, 15-13, 15-5, 15-12.
