Earth Day Festival Set at Park

Earth Day will be celebrated Sunday at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.

About 3,000 people are expected to turn out for the Voice in the Park celebration, which will start at 10 a.m. with a tree-planting ceremony. A fair will open at 11 a.m. and will feature demonstrations, games, entertainment and information booths with an environmental message.

The fair emphasizes youth involvement and will have representatives from the ecology clubs at Mira Costa High, Redondo Union High, Hawthorne High and several elementary schools in the South Bay.

Voice in the Park is sponsored by the city of Manhattan Beach and VOICE, Volunteers and Organizations Improving the Community’s Environment.

Representatives from local environmental groups, including the Audubon Society, Heal the Bay, Save the Whales, Friends of Madrona Marsh, the Surfrider Foundation and Tree People, will be on hand.

The celebration runs until 3 p.m.
