All New Complaint

This is in reference to a phrase I am constantly hearing on television which appears to be a favorite of many promo announcers. I refer to, “This week we have an all new ‘Murphy Brown,’ ” or an “all new ‘Cheers’ ” or an “all new whatever.”

What is this “all new” stuff? To the best of my knowledge I have never seen a “partly new” show, or if I have it was not advertised as such, yet the inference here is that all “new” shows are not “all” new. Do they put a new ending and/or a new beginning on some shows, or maybe they use the beginning and end but put a “new middle” on some “old” shows. It certainly is a puzzle.
