A South Dakota State decathlete died after missing the landing pad on a pole-vault attempt during a track meet in Sioux City, Iowa.
Wade Knutson, 21, was pronounced dead at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. They said he landed on his shoulders and then his head struck the floor of Roberts Stadium.
