Cypress Coach Brad Pickler reached a milestone Monday, but it was of secondary interest to him.

The most important part of Cypress’ 2-0 Orange Empire Conference softball victory was that it moved the host Chargers into sole possession of first place.

Jennifer Johnson had two run-scoring singles to help propel Pickler to his 250th victory. In seven seasons, he is 250-100.

Dena Villasenor (12-3) pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for Cypress (39-16, 12-3 in conference), which holds a one-game lead over Orange Coast (19-11, 11-4) and Fullerton (11-4). Cypress is at Fullerton for a 3 p.m. game Wednesday. Cypress took two of three from OCC and had split two conference games with Fullerton.

Kerry Moloney singled in the first inning, was sacrificed to second and went to third on a single by Carrie Frederick. With two outs, Johnson hit a soft liner up the middle that OCC second baseman Stephani Rogers dived for the ball, but it was jarred loose when she hit the ground.

Cypress, which had 10 hits and stranded 13 runners, got another run in the fifth.
